One Day At A Time - Cuban Style

One Day at a Time is a Netflix original sitcom loosely based on the late seventies show of the same name. This time around the Italian Romano family has been replaced by the Cuban Alvarez Family. The series which premiered on Netflix on January 6, 2017 has been renewed for a second season.

The show stars Justina Machado as Penelope Alvarez. A divorced Cuban mother of two, Penelope has returned home from serving in the Army and now works as a nurse. Along with her two children, Elena (played by Isabella Gomez) and Alex (played by Marcel Ruiz) and her mother Lydia (played by the award winning, Rita Moreno), Alvarez struggles through the ups and downs of life. The supporting cast features landlord and family friend, Dwayne Schneider (Todd Grinnell) and Dr. Leslie Berkowitz, Penelope's boss and Lydia's Love Interest (Stephen Tobolwsky).

Season one gave audience a chance to meet Penelope and her family and discover a few secrets about each member. The series brings topics which are relatable to today's generation, including discrimination against Latins and women, LGBT and issues surrounding our armed services personnel as well as typical life events that every family endures.

I'll be tuning in for Season two to follow the adventures of the Alvarez Family, one day at a time.
